[Names and Summaries of Research Projects]

Our research purpose is rational design of prodrugs based on the functional analysis of metabolizing enzyme and the physiological pharmacokinetic analysis. We focused on hydrolases, especially carboxylesterase, butyrylcholinesterase and paraoxonase, due to major enzyme for activation of prodrug in the body.

Our research is performing as follows:

  1. Characterization of several hydrolases
  2. Structural analysis of the substrate binding site of hydrolases
  3. Regulation of tissue expression of hydrolase isozymes in human and animals
  4. Development of predicting method of in vivo pharmacokinetics of prodrugs from the in vitro experimental data.
