History

1756 Shigekata Hosokawa, Lord of Higo Province, established Medicinal Plant Garden "Banjien".
1885 The establishment of Kumamoto Pharmaceutical School was authorized.
1885 The School was opened at 49 Konyaimamachi, Kumamoto City.
1886 The School was moved to Tetorihonmachi, Kumamoto City.
1887 The School was moved to 19 Yamasakimachi, Kumamoto City.
1908 The School changed its name to Kyushu Pharmaceutical School.
1909 The School was moved to Oe-mura, Hotaku County, Kumamoto Prefecture. It is the present campus (5-1 Oe-honmachi, Kumamoto City).

1910 The school was raised to the status of a private college, and changed its name to Kyushu College of Pharmacy.
1925 The College became a public college by being transferred to the authority of the Ministry of Education (Monbusho) by the Imperial edict No. 6. It changed its name to Kumamoto College of Pharmacy and was opened on April 1st.

1945 A new course, Pharmaceutical Course, was established. The former course was named Biopharmaceutical Course.
1949 Kumamoto University was established with the proclamation of National School Establishment Law (law No. 150, 1949). Kumamoto College of Pharmacy was incorporated into Kumamoto University as the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

1964 Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Master Courses) was established in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
1974 Medicinal Plant Garden on the campus became an institution of the ministerial ordinance.
1985 The Pharmaceutical Course and Biopharmaceutical Course were integrated into the Pharmaceutical Sciences Course.
The Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Master Courses) was re-organized into the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Doctoral Course).

1998 Division of Clinical Pharmacy was established in the Graduate School.

2001 Division of Molecular and Genomic Pharmacy was established in the Graduate School.
2003 Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Graduate School of Medical Sciences were integrated and re-organized to Faculty of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Graduate School of Medical Sciences.
2004 Completion of the Oe Integrated Research Building.
Faculty of Medical and Pharmaceutical Science, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Graduate School of Medical Sciences.
Completion of the Miyamoto Memorial Hall.
2006 The pharmaceutical sciences course was split, forming the School of Pharmacy (6 years) and the Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences. (4 years)
Establishment of the Research Institute for Drug Discovery
Establishment of Clinical Pharmacology and Department of Biopharmaceutics
Establishment of Endowed Chairs・Department of State-of-the-art DDS laboratory and Department of Biomedical Polymer Sciences
The DDS Educational Course was introduced to the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
2008 Center for Clinical Pharmaceutical Sciences was established.
2009 The Mock Pharmacy is completed
2010 The first class of the School of Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences graduates
2010 The Graduate Schools of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences (Master's Degree Program) are founded
2010 The Medicinal Plant Botanical Garden of the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences is made part of the Eco-Frontier Center of Medicinal Resources
2010 125th Kuma Yaku Anniversary Commemorative Ceremony is held
2011 125 Year History of Kuma Yaku is published
2012 The first class of the School of Pharmacy graduates
2012 2011 Kumamoto Prefecture Chapter of the Sokyoukai General Assembly 2011 is held
2012 The majors of Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences (Doctor's Degree Program) and Clinical Pharmaceutical Sciences (Doctor's Degree Program) are founded in the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences
2012 The Program for Leading Graduate Schools Health life science: Interdisciplinary and Glocal Oriented is adopted
2013 The University receives of permanent certification in the ISO14001 Management System
2013 The University coordinates with the National Cancer Center to establish a graduate school
