Outline - Special feature
Graduate students belong to the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and are taught by staff members from the Faculty of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences(previous medical and pharmaceutical faculties), the Institute of Molecular Embryology and Genetics, the Institute of Resource Development and Analysis and Kumamoto University Medical School Hospital.
The school aims to cultivate pharmaceutical researchers and advanced pharmaceutical specialists that can be independent in thought and provide able leadership in a wide variety of fields including bio-science research, the creation of medicinal products, clinical, environmental and public health administration.
The research Institute for Drug Discovery was formed in April, 2006 and the support program for improving graduate school education "Nurturing high level pharmaceutical specialists and life scientists program" was released in 2007. The Center for clinical Pharmaceutical Scientists was established in April, 2008 to support the education and research for students.? And the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences is the key graduate school to proceed the global COE programs to nurture researchers who can work internationally.

The school of pharmacy course has been split into the School of pharmacy, a six-year course and The Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences, a four-year course focusing on the training of researchers. With the change of course, the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences will innovate its course.
Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences
Students acquire the basic knowledge focusing on physical pharmacy, chemical pharmacy and biological pharmacy, nurturing the creative imagination, the spirit of inquiry and the drug discovery-mind. The purpose is to train researchers to take a leading role in development, production and management field of medicine, technicians and drug information service. There are four courses based on the support program for improving graduate school education "Nurturing high level pharmaceutical specialists and life scientists program".
- 1. Drug Delivery Course:
- Nurturing drug discovery researchers. They assess disposition of drugs, drug formulation and drug delivery.
- 2. Bio Pharma Course:
- Nurturing biological drug discovery researchers to search for new drugs.
- 3. Medicinal Chemistry Course:
- Nurturing scientific drug discovery researchers to discover the target and synthesis of drugs.
- 4. Life Science Course:
- Nurturing the life scientists bearer of regenerative medicine and cell therapy.
