About Us

img_outline2.jpgThis center is a Medicinal Plant Garden that traces its history back to the Banjien herb garden (founded in 1756) of the Higo Hosokawa Clan. Here, we conduct research and provide education that uses medicinal plant materials in two ways, which we broadly classify as "research" and "activity". Among these efforts are the elucidation of pharmacologically active properties of medicinal and useful plants from a pharmaceutical perspective, the systematic preservation of high quality genetic materials, and the promotion of cultivation research targeting under-utilized plants that can contribute useful functions to the needs of industry.
